Sukhoi Su-34/32 Fullback

The Sukhoi Su-34/32 Fullback is a Russian twin-seat fighter-bomber. Su-32MF/Su-34 aircraft is a multirole deep strike fighter, intended to perform the battlefield interdiction, close air support and deep strike roles now performed by the Su-24 in Russia.

DESIGN AND FEATURES:

The Su-34 design retains the basic layout and construction of the Su-27 airframe. It has canards wings like su30mki. It has an entirely new nose and forward fuselage with a cockpit providing side-by-side seating for a crew of two. . It has a two-seat rather than single-seat cockpit. The Su-34 has a changed contour of the nose section to accommodate an advanced multi-mode phased array radar with terrain following and terrain avoidance modes.

The Su-34's most distinctive feature is the unusually large flight deck. Much of the design work went into crew comfort. The two crew members sit side by side in a large cabin, with the pilot-commander to the left and navigator/operator of weapons to the right. An advantage of the side by side cockpit is that duplicate instruments are not required for each pilot. The crew members have room to stand and move about the cabin during long missions

The  cockpit  of su32/34 uses a single dual combiner Head Up Display, and AMLCD displays. The widely photographed prototype cockpits are unlikely to represent a production configuration, given the layout of the more recent Su-30MK and Su-27SKM/SKU glass cockpits. The multifunction displays in the cockpit show the flight parameters, the operational status of the aircraft units and tactical data.

Armaments’ and sensors

The primary aircraft sensor is the large Leninets B-004 multimode phased array radar. The X-band design is claimed to achieve a 15 kW peak power rating. The radar is claimed to provide a range of 200 to 250 km against large surface targets, ground mapping capability to 150 km .Defensive systems include a Radar Warning Receiver, most likely the current variant of the SPO-32 / L150 Pastel digital receiver carried by the Su-27/30.

The Su-34 has 12 pylons for up to 8,000 kilograms of ordnance, intended to include the latest Russian precision-guided weapons. The Su-34 is armed with a 30mm GSh-301 gun and 180 rounds of ammunition. The gun has a maximum rate of fire of 1,500 rounds a minute and the muzzle velocity is 860m/sec. it is able to carry a range of missiles including air-to-air, air-to-surface, anti-ship and anti-radiation missiles, guided and unguided bombs, and rockets. The aircraft is fitted with a target designator.

First production aircraft are powered by two after-burning NPO Saturn AL-31F turbofan engines. Later aircraft may be fitted with MMPP Salyut AL-31F-M2/3 or NPO Saturn 117 engines.
